New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1935. First edition. Very good in very good plus jacket.. First printing of Hemingway's travelogue of a hunting expedition in Africa, a great copy with green panel on spine largely unfaded. 8.25'' x 5.75''. Original green cloth, front board with gilt-stamped, spine stamped in black and gold. In original unclipped ($2.75) green and black dust jacket (Grissom's jacket B, first printing). Scribner's seal and "A" on copyright page. [8], 295, [1] pages. Jacket unusually nice, with shallow edgewear, a touch of soil and rubbing, and only a hint of the sunning that often afflicts the fugitive green. Book with slivers of sunning to edges and a few spots of soil.
Synopsis
Green Hills of Africa is a 1935 work of nonfiction written by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway's second work of nonfiction, Green Hills of Africa is basically a journal of a month on safari he and his wife, Pauline Marie Pfeiffer, took in East Africa during December 1933. Green Hills of Africa is divided into four parts: Pursuit and Conversation, Pursuit Remembered, Pursuit and Failure, and Pursuit as Happiness, each of which plays a different role in the story.
