About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, September 1976. Cloth . Very Good/Very Good. Signed by Gardner on blank page after FFEP. 7th printing; early reprint of this US edition, first printed in same month, September 17 and reprinted five times before this printing. Fair to guess it was selling out quickly. This has always been my favorite edition of Grendel with the wonderful Emil Antonucci drawers and striking purple cloth covered boards with illustration & lettering in gold. Mildly edgeworn jacket (without the frequently found spine sunning!). Also not price clipped. Original price of $6.95 on flap. Clean, bright purple boards with sharp corners and only mild fade to gilt spine lettering. Sound binding. Bright, clean orange topstain with faint, small spot of lightening at spine side.
