Lady Greene was a prolific Irish children's author whose works emphasized moral life lessons. The present work was originally published in 1870 with the subtitle Buy the Truth and Sell It Not: A Tale for the Young; and it tells the simple and uplifting story of two boys who learn the Christian way toward generosity and goodness. Illustrated for the first time by Arthur Rackham, the present version of the story is brought to life in vivid, Pre-Raphaelite style.

Riall 51. Latimore and Haskell 21.
