About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Robert Bridges, produced 3 renderings of his sonnet serial, The Growth of Love: 1876 - 24 sonnets; 1889 - 79 sonnets; and 1898 - 69 sonnets. The title, The Growth of Love is a tad ambiguous, as it proposes a system of innovation, a profound understanding, through which one reaches at a much more inclusive admiration of a surreptitious thing which we all know as love. To be exact, Robert?s exploration is a tortuous, somewhat than a determined way. Every sonnet is a passageway through which the poet takes a glimpse at some of the varied elements of an exemplary religiosity which will often elude description. His method is among the subtle and respectful acknowledgment, more at scrutinizing other than contemplative, and nearly totally free from the sense of struggling for salvation or glorification.

Robert Seymour Bridges, OM was Britain's poet laureate between 1913 and 1930. A physician by instruction, he accomplished literary success only later in his life. His verses reveal a solemn Christian belief, and he is the novelist of countless famous hymns. It was through Robert?s exertions that Gerard Manley Hopkins realized post-obit popularity.

As a poet Robert stands quite at a distant from the flux of contemporary English poetry, though his writings have had prodigious impact in a chosen group, by its limitation, clarity, accuracy and tact also intensity of articulation. It characterizes a diverse theory of prosody. Robert?s loyalty bolstered most of his crafts.

He is also famous for these prose writings: Milton's Prosody, With a Chapter on Accentual Verse, based on essays; Keats; Hymns from the Yattendon Hymnal; The Spirit of Man; Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, edited with notes by R.B.; The Necessity of Poetry; Collected Essays, Papers, Etc.; and all other works of praise.
