Whymper spent a lot of his time travelling and living in other countries, spending the last of his days in Chamonix. This work explores the history of Chamonix and Mont Blanc, an area along the mountains between France, Switzerland and Italy. Whymper relays the several attempts at climbing Mont Blanc, outlining a number of other expeditions in the region. Illustrated with sixty-four illustrations, including four folding maps of the region. Collated, complete. With twenty pages of publisher's advertisements to the front and rear of the work. Bound in the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, very good, with light edge wear and sunning to the extremities. Slight loss to the head and tail of the backstrip. Tear to the head of the rear board, down the joint.Pencil inscription to front cover, with marking to the rear. Internally, binding is tenderly held between page 80-1 and is a little tender between 16 and 17. Otherwise generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd mark, Very Good
