Information on the history, government, recreation, public services, and community life of Palos Verdes Estates, California. Provides a view of Palos Verdes Estates in the 1950s. Originally part of a land grant given to the Don Jose Sepulveda family by the Mexican government in 1846 was known as Rancho Palos Verdes. The peninsula portion of the rancho was sold to Jotham Bixby in 1882, eventually sold to Frank Vanderlip, who sold out portions, which eventually developed into the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates. During the 1950s this city on the peninsula was developed to reflect a low-key, moneyed Mediterranean lifestyle. Red illustrations and map. (8-1/2"x5-1/2")
