London: Chapman and Hall, 193, Piccadilly, 1869. First Edition. Boards. Very good +. First edition. 12mo; viii, 295pp; green cloth over board, blind-stamped decorative borders front and rear, gilt-stamped spine with illustration of a hunter; brown endpapers with publisher's ads; round embossed stamp for "W.H. Smith & Son, Library, 138 Strand" on ffep; light shelf wear to boards, light damp staining to head of a few pages; very good plus. The author, Parker Gillmore (1835-1900) was a Scottish author, world traveler, and big game hunter with experience in India, Africa, China and North America. He served in the British Army during the Crimean War. The embossed ownership stamp on the free-front endpaper was for Smith's, a high-end British bookseller.
