Quarto. 374pp. Black and white portrait, 8 color plates, 11 text figures and diagrams. Index. Green cloth, gilt. Slight rubbing to extremities. A fine copy. The author gathered her information in 1898 and here presents the entire ceremony, as observed in the Chaui band of the Pawnee tribe. The first section provides introductory explanations that are essential to the understanding of the ceremony, which is given without comment in the words of the Ku'rahus, together with his interpretation of the songs and accompanying rites. The second section consists of an analysis of the ceremony and treats of its structure, purpose and teaching. There are translations of many songs..
