About This Item
Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1971. In 'Halifax Warden of the North', the author revises and updates his own earlier account of the city. It is an authoritative book about a city blessed and cursed by her location, a city gravely important to the British, French and Americans, through wars and peace, but one that also holds the world's record for sailors' pleasures. The contents include a preface by the author dated January 1, 1971, 42 chapters, bibliography and index. A list of illustrations show 14 plates...all present on heavier semi-gloss paper. Map endpapers reveal a two-page spread of "A View of Halifax 1750". Emerald green cloth boards with bright gilt title print to spine. Bottom edge of boards show minor cloth bubble. Brief gift inscription to half-title page. Wrap-around jacket painting of Halifax harbour by John O'Brien, circa 1850, photographed by MacAskills Studios. An extremely bright, clean copy in a price-intact dust jacket.. Revised Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine.
