About This Item

Leipzig: Verlag Von F. C. W. Vogel, 1882. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine. First Edition. viii, 693, [1-errata],[2-ads] pages. Publisher's original purple/brown cloth. Spine faded to brown and gold lettering faded. Upper corners bumped. Bookplate of the Janus Foundation (Haskell Norman's foundation, now defunct) on front pastedown endpaper. Silk marking ribbon still present. An above average copy, bright and clean internally. Volume 3 of Handbuch der Algemeinen Therapie. Cloth. 'Of the many German neurologists who flourished during the later 1800's, the most significant figure was Wilhelm Heinrich Erb. Primarily known for the advances he made in identifying, classifying, and treating the muscular dystrophies, many of which still bear his name, Erb also pioneered in the use of electricity in the diagnosis and treatment of nervous disorders. This work on electrotherapy contains first descriptions of several nervous disorders and was written while Erb was professor of neurology at the University of Heidelberg, a post he held for some twenty-seven years.'

Heirs of Hippocrates (1980) No.1066 Garrison and Morton, 4557 (referring to another work) notes that Erb was a pioneer in the use of Electrotherapy. Note: this volume in the series was apparently also issued separately with some additional pages such as index, etc in the rear. We find both in OCLC/Worldcat. We are not aware of any precedence.
