Addressed to Dr. Kirke, this letter from Charles Wright thanks the recipient for his kind remarks about the memoir written by son - The History of Lloyds. My Dear Dr. Kirke, I feel I must write to thank you for the very remarkable letter you have kindly written about my son's Memoir. From your kind reception of the 'History of Lloyds' and from other (?) I thought you would be interested in the Memoir but I was not prepapred for the letter so different from a merely polite acknowledgement which you have sent me. The book is a spontaneous tribute from his friends and I had nothing to do with its inception or achievement but to give sympathy and appreciation to the enterprise. The book has thouroughly pleased his friends but I have seen no appreciation of the quality which yours possesses. I sent it to Fayle whose work formes so essential a part of the book and he writes "Dr. Kirk's letter is a very fine one - he must be an exceptional men. It is a long time since I have seen anything that pleased me so much." Don't trouble to acknowledge this letter. I shall look forward to the pleasure of meeting you in the summer. Always Yours most faithfully - Charles Wright." This letter is handwritten on two pages of stationary in black pen. Fold lines on both pages with minor wear to edges. Clean. Pages 1 and 3 are pictured. AUTO/041818.
