About This Item
MINAKAWA Taizou 皆川泰蔵, , HANGA KYOTO 版画京都. Kyoto, n.d. [c.late 50s, early 60s.]
Twelve wonderful Sousaku Hanga Creative Print Movement creations, each about 11" x 15", capturing famous sites of the old capital in a colorful and bold style, true to the spirit of the Creative Print Movement.
Minakawa was famous as a potter and weaver and dyer, but here he turns to designing these wonderful prints. They were cut and printed in color woodblock by the masters at Unsoudou, the great Kyoto printing house. So iterating a traditional collaboration, here in a creative print style. But certainly not self-cut or self-printed. Lie the great design artists of the NeoRimpa movement, they relied on Unsodo here to capture their inspiration.
It might be said that Minakawa's work here has been lost to history. Single prints from the set reach the marketplace, but this is the first complete album to reach the market in my memory.
With the original contents [prints, preliminaries, etc.] of the dark blue, washi covered tied case [19 1/2" x 14 1/2"] and the original shipping box. Basically like new.
