London: Humphrey Milford - Oxford University Press, 1925. First edition thus. No date; circa 1925. Rare and beautiful edition illustrated by Rie Cramer and L. A. Govey. Large 7" x 9 1/4" x 2" design. Dark green full-cloth boards, moderate shelf, corner wear, rub. Richly elaborate, multi-hued cover and spine design in bright gilt, red, tan, and several blues from designs by Rie Cramer. Cover depicts knight and maiden on horseback w/soldiers and dogs, traveling the countryside beside body of water; framed w/beautiful pillers. Spine appears to depict The Wild Swans and The Fir Tree w/bands. Thick, rough-cut deckled pages generally very good w/moderate discoloration, toning to endpapers; some adhesive residue to frontispiece and title page. Illustrated and detailed throughout in b&w and monotones by L. A. Govey in addition to the seventeen mounted color plates by Cramer.
