Spine with ends frayed and light fading, hinges tender, a few leaves with marginal tears. 8vo. xii, [2]. 636 pages. 16 illustrations in text (of which 8 are full-page), folding map at end showing the original lots and farms of Harlem. Original brown blind-ruled cloth, gilt-lettered on spine, the author's advertisement leaf mounted on rear pastedown. First edition. Inscribed on the front flyleaf: "H. S. Leverich, Esqr. with the compliments of J McCall?. June 21, 1881." The Leverich family (merchants in New York City) appears on the advertisement leaf as a subscribed to Riker's book 'Annals of Newtown, LI.' The inscription appears to read J McCall, possibly the publisher of McCall's Magazine. Howes R-297; Sabin 71388.
