He was born in Austria to an affluent Jewish family. He fled to England as a refugee, where he was imprisoned as an enemy alien and was sent to Canada. In the internment camps, architecture became his saviour. When released, he studied in Canada and at Harvard under Bauhaus master Walter Gropius. In 1948, he moved to Australia to design a home for his parents. This book recounts the power, passions and private life of the architect who shaped modern Australian architectural design.
