About This Item

New York: Dutton, 1989. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First Printing. Inscribed by Norman Cousins on the front free endpaper to the actor John Stearns. The book would be fine save for mild foxing of the endpapers and top of text block and a bit of soiling on the top of the text block. The book also has a paper clip mark and foxing at top of pages 60-65. Otherwise the spine is tight, boards rigid and tips are pointed. The jacket is not price clipped, small fold /chip top and bottom of spine. Actually looks quite smart in its shiny new plastic cover. Shipping box is suitable for wrapping with a non-price listed purchase order inside along with biodegradable packing. This book is from the estate and association copy of actress Mary Kay Stearns and John Stearns of the T.V. comedy show "Mary Kay and Johnny." Wikipedia states, "Mary Katherine Stearns was an American actress best known for portraying the fictional version of herself on the sitcom Mary Kay and Johnny from 1947 until 1950. The series was the first sitcom to air on television, the first television series to feature a pregnancy, (the Stearns' real life son Christopher), and the first to feature a couple sharing a bed.".

Synopsis

"An eloquent plea for two needed emphases: more humane doctor-patient relations, and greater patient involvement in the struggle with disease."—Melvin Konner.
