Description:
Philadelphia: Carey & Hart, 1841. First American Edition. Octavo (25cm.); publisher's brown blind-embossed cloth, pictorial gilt-lettered spine; [3](ads),vi,[7]-370,[2](ads)pp.; engraved frontispiece and added title page, 30 leaves of plates. Extremities scuffed with brief exposure at corners, chipping at spine ends, cloth slightly soiled and rather toned, especially at spine, a few signatures proud, plates slightly browned, childish contemporary pencil scribbles to rear endpapers. Still, overall Very Good and sound. Contributors include Catherine Gore ("The Chaperone and the Debutante"), Leigh Hunt ("The Conductor"), and Wiliam Thackeray ("The Fashionable Authoress" and "Captain Rook and Mr. Pigeon").

Contributions from Thackeray, Leigh Hunt, Nimrod, Douglas Jerrold, etc. Handsome 3/4 dark-brown morocco over marbled boards. Gilt-decorated compartments, raised bands. A solid, tightly-bound, VG copy. Light fraying along the hinges and tips and just a bit of scuffing to the spine. Octavo, 370 pgs., beautiful matching marbled endpapers. Internally clean, with only light foxing thruout and one very small, neat former owner inscription to second front endpaper.
