About This Item

Helen Keller was an American author, political activist & lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. The story of how Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate. A prolific author, Keller was well-traveled & outspoken in her convictions. She campaigned for women's suffrage, and other causes. Typed Letter signed dated 12/09/1942, which places it at the heart of World War II. The top of the letter reads "Arcan Ridge", which was the name that Keller gave to her new residence in Westport, Connecticut where she lived for more than 30 years with her many dogs and her personal assistant, Polly Thompson.

"Only as complete human beings warring for democracy can we be sure of real victory.." "But I know God's love shining through good hearts is undimmed by any calamity.." "And the festive joy of the angel chant and the smile of the blessed babe newborn, even if clouded, will never be extinguished.." Signed "Helen Keller" The letter is dedicated to a Helen Kellogg. In very fine condition. Size: 7-1/4" x 10-1/2" with a Bold Signature in pencil, as usual for Keller,. The original postmarked envelope is also included.
