About This Item

Helen Keller Signed Book."Helen Keller's Journal." Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1938. Printed at the Country Life Press, Garden City, N.Y., U.S.A. First Edition. Inscribed as usual in pencil on front end cover: "To my sweet friend Miss Olson from Helen Keller. Thanksgiving, 1938." Original cloth binding with gilt "HK" on cover and gilt spine. Includes dust jacket. Very good condition with bright interior.

This book documents Hellen Keller's experiences in 1936-1937, following the death of her beloved teacher and lifelong companion, Anne Sullivan Macy. The first entries are just weeks after Sullivan's passing, in which Keller writes "The deepest sorrow knows no time-it seems an eternal night." In the course of the book, Keller grapples with the grief over losing her dear teacher and once again finds hope and joy. An important book that shows Keller's rich inner life, thoughts, and courage while facing an immeasurable loss.
