Selected with a foreword and twelve brief prefaces by Charles Poore First edition [with an "A" code to the copyright page, the publisher's 1" Scribners/lamp design blind stamp to the rear board, errata slip present between pages 86 and 87, no book club trademark/statement to the front flap of the Dust Wrapper]. This first printing reportedly consisted of 15,850 copies. Brownish ["rust" colored] cloth with gold gilt lettering/decoration, 652 pages collecting two complete novels [The Torrents of Spring and The Sun Also Rises] plus selections from five other novels and from two works on Spain and Africa plus eleven short stories [including the first book appearance of "The Fable of the Good Lion"]. 1953 gift inscription to the front free endpaper. Binding cracked 650 and 651 else VG+ copy [very light bumping to the spine ends] in unevenly toned and lightly chipped price clipped Dust Wrapper [presumed first issue without "printed in the U.S.A. and 005" on the rear flap] with tearing/creasing to the upper left corner of the rear panel.LR1/3E
