Octavo laced through blindstamped vellum [sl soiled] All eges rouge, Engraved title of Nepture playing the harp while riding a dolphin through stormy seas +titlepage printed in red & black with copperplate vignette, full page engraved with Laurensz`s portrait+[4p=dedication with large headpiece] + [22p=To Reade] + [18pp=life of author] + [16pp=halftitle +laudatory verse/etc+to reader+list of works] +half title +364pp + 2 folding tables & plates ex collation. Some foxing and off-setting from the emblems [here called hieroglifica & the two folding plates], but all in good condition. The paper strong and crisp, with a little staining and foxing, though no impact on text. Landwehr (Emblem & fable books) 753. *HERTSPIEGHEL is a summary and compedium of more complex works by Spieghel. A later more complete version of the 1723 ed. 1730 Tirion edition RARE.
