About This Item

New York: The Free Press, 1994. Hardcover. Small 4to. Quarter ivory cloth with green spine lettering and green paper over boards, pictorial dust jacket. vii, 372pp. Illustrations, map endpapers. Near fine/near fine. This superbly tight and bright first edition is inscribed and signed large and bold in black fineline on half-title page "for Bob and Ibby / from / RKennedy." Often described as a polymath, Kennedy (1926-2011) was a strange mixture of historian, television producer and museum administrator, directing the National Museum of American History and then the National Park Service. Robert Malott (1926-2018) was a noted Chicago civic and business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist. For some reason, signed copies of this title rarely surface.
