About This Item
This first Dover edition is an unabridged and unaltered reproduction of the work originally published by Moffat, Yard, and Company, New York, in 1917 under the title Problems of Mysticism and its Symbolism. Translated by Smith Ely Jellife, M.D., Ph. D., who refers to the examination of mystical symbolism as a form of "paleo-psychology"--equating symbols as a kind of thought-form fossil from our ancient past. This study pre-dates the work of Jung and is the first serious attempt to correlate the methods of psychoanalysis with the literature of alchemy and other Western mystical and occult traditions. Translated from the original German.
