About This Item

London:Hurst and Blackett, Ltd., 1936. First Edition. hard cover. Very Good/No jacket. London:Hurst and Blackett, Ltd. (1936). 287 + 16pp ads. Hardcover.  Black boards lightly soiled and shelf-worn. Internally, other than a previous owners name stamped to 1st free end-page and some light foxing scattered throughout, a very good copy.  Binding is tight and hinges intact. *"The four cases making up this book have been carefully chose; not only for their intrinsic historical value, but even more particularly on account of what may be termed their representative quality. Thus: The Assassination of Premier Stolypin was an affair entirely concerned with Russian interior politics, although not without a degree of outside foreign influence; The Theft of the Baranova Formula, on the other hand, was a matter of espionage pure and simple, that is to say, mainly involving a rival foreign power; The Brest-Litovsk Drainage Contract represents a special branch of espionage, one entering directly into the sphere of practical politics; while, finally, The Black Mass of Hannula, being an off case, stands in a class apart, and is only included on account of its individual interest and as showing the unexpected sort of work in which an Intelligence officer might under exceptional circumstances be engaged."
