About This Item
Edinburgh: National Galleries of Scotland, 1991. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Softcover. Condition: Very good, with just a hint of shelfwear to covers. Binding sound, no inscriptions. 120pp. Many sepia and b/w photographic illustrations. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh from 21 November 1991 to 18 January 1992. In 1844 the great photographic partnership of David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson announced the publication of a volume on "The Fishermen and Women of the Firth of Forth" but the project was never fulfilled. Individual photographs taken for the series appear in albums and collections throughout the world, and until this exhibition other images had lain neglected for nearly 150 years. These negatives were newly printed for the exhibition and added to the more well known images, they make a group of great beauty and insight into a working community..
