About This Item

3 volumes ONLY, full leather, gold stamped title, vol. # on black labels, some nicks and scratches on covers, names previous owners, including bookplate of Prof. K.M. Setton of the Institute for Advanced Study, considerable wear on spines, but bindings of all volumes are tight, all pages are clean and intact with little age-tinting, virtually no foxing.

Joseph Louis Ripault Désormeaux's (1724-1793) classic (and probably unique) study of the Montmorency family, which Louis XV, when asked about this work, is said to have equated with the history of France.

Les Montmorency were among the most prestigious French noble families, providing France with several constables including Anne and Henri de Montmorency, Marshall of France François, Admiral of France Charles.
