Very Good, bound in contemporary half calf over marbled boards, lettering at spine faded away, five raised bands, plain brown end papers, marbled boards rubbed. xii, 416 pp. Born Feb. 13, 1457, died Mar.27, 1482 from injuries sustained from falling off a horse, Mary of Burgundy was daughter and heiress of Charles the Bold, duke of Burgundy; her crucial marriage to the archduke Maximilian (later Maximilian I), son of the Habsburg emperor Ferdinand III, resulted in Habsburg control of the Netherlands. On 29 December 1938, Churchill wrote to his wife regarding his initial draft about this part of his history: "I have just finished writing about Joan of Arc. I think she is the winner in the whole of French history. The leading women of these days were more forceful and remarkable than the men." Profusely illustrated, this slim volume contains 17 illustrations by the distinguished artist Lauren Ford. Though 16 of these illustrations had previously been published as black and white drawings, this is their first appearance in color. The illustration on the dust jacket front cover and frontispiece is original to this edition. This little-known edition is scarce and thus missing from many collections. The french journalist Julien Besançon had been commenting on major live events, like John F. Kennedy's funeral and the first steps on the moon for the French television station Europe 1.

While covering the events of May 1968, Julien Besancon felt the need to preserve the graffitis, that the protestors had written on the walls. These writings, many of them fragments of literature, quoting poets and political thinkers, were as spontaneous as they were ephemeral.
