Engraved title page, several folding plates, engravings in the text of trees, plants, animals, fish, etc. 4to, contemporary calf, gilt spine, top portion of text and top margins throughout dampstained, including folding plates, pages of text wavy throughout, edges of corners bumped and worn, calf lightly soiled, lettering on spine faded, inner hinges strengthened, spine rubbed, many pages with light foxing, mostly to margins, ex-lib with rubberstamps on margins of title-page and margins of several other pages of text. Rotterdam: Reinier Leers, 1681.<br/><br/> With Vocabulary of the Carib Language by Father Raymond Breton on pp. 571-583. Published to induce Huguenot immigration to the West Indies, this significant work contains much on the natural history and the French settlements there. Also there is much material on the Carib Indians. "Much of the material may have been collected by De Poincy, but the compiler of the work appears to have been Charles de Rochefort, pastor of the French Protestant church at Rotterdam, who had resided several years in the West Indies." Sabin 7231. The 43 page appendix is titled, " Recit de L'Estat Present des Celebres Colonies de la Virginie, de Marie-Land, de la Caroline, du nouveau Duche d'York, de Penn-Sylvania & de la nouvelle Angleterre..." The appendix has several pages with several small tears in the right margins.<br/><br/>
