Very Good binding. 4to, in speckled calf with a patch to the upper board; decorations in compartments with morocco label; lacking the engraved title; [26]. 702, [22] with last leaf blank.~~The first printing of the Jesuit historian Louis Maimbourg's account of the Greek schism -- that is the Great Schism of 1054 which broke the Christian church into the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Churches. ~~The title page has an engraved rondel of two"Cicognes" or storks. Each of the six chapters has a handsome engraved headpiece, and an engraved capital letter, as does the Dedication page "Au Roy". There are tailpieces as well. Altogether, a handsome binding, which presents well. A small gift inscription penned to the top of the endpaper. Very Good binding.
