About This Item
1743 History of Nader Shah Kouli-Kan IRAN Persia MAP Mogul Treasures Claustre
Nader Shah, also known as Qoli Khan, was a Persian shah known for being one of the most powerful Iranian rulers in the history of the Middle East. And while he was powerful, his power corrupted him, and he became exceedingly cruel to his subjects. So much so that it led to his assassination by a group of a dozen or more conspirators.
He led numerous successful military campaigns often being compared to Napoleon and Genghis Khan. These military conquests, along with his political influence and treasure hunts, were reported by several European historians including Andre de Claustre. This work also contains descriptions of Persian King Tahmasp II and the Safawid Dynasty.
One of the most famous accounts described in this book is of Nader Shah's pillaging of the treasures of the Great Mogul. Per Briant,
"De Clasutre provides an inventory of the treasures and explains that 'one hundred workmen were kept busy for fifteen days melting & making into bars the gold & silver not in coined money, or order to make transportation easier."
