About This Item
Madison: Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies, 1997. Scholarly study and notes on variants of this once-popular Castilian Spanish epic romance, which was published in many Spanish editions from 1499-1554, and in abridged versions in the 1600s, by which time the genre had become less popular, and the subject satire by Cervantes in Don Quixote. The author argues that knowledge of the text's changes are essential to understanding its nuances. Critical commentary in English, with untranslated Spanish quotes; includes a transcription with variants of the 1499 Burgos edition, transcriptions of the 1735 Madrid, 1635 Lisboa, 1750 Cordóba, 1820 Valladolid and 1858 Madrid editions; all in Spanish. Includes physical descriptions of several other editions, 29 in all. Hardcover, full burgundy cloth, gilt titling; as pictured. Light wear to book; no jacket, as issued; appears unread. Text clean; [6], 279 pages; bibliography, facsimile title & other pages including illustrations. Text mostly in Spanish.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Quarto.
