"General History of the Things of New Spain" is an encyclopedic work on the people and culture of central Mexico by Fray Bernardino de Sahagun (1499 - 1590), a Franciscan missionary who arrived in Mexico in 1529. The manuscript, 30 years in preparation, commonly known as the Florentine Codex, wrtten as an aide in the conversion of natives to Christianity, was completed c. 1577. A set of 12 books, the first 6 (of which this Book 4 belongs) addresses the religious aspects of people of the central highlands. 380 pgs, with illustrations. Appendices and Vocabulary to rear.
