Editio Secunda, Second Edition, stated; Volume I only, apparently the only volume published as Freire died in 1798; important history of Portuguese law, not to my knowledge translated into English; Latin text only, typeface uses the long 's' and the date requires a key to decipher it, thanks to a short-lived trend in altered Roman numerals. 8vo, binding appears contemporary, full leather with stamped devices on spine and painted pattern on boards, all edges in red chalk; good+ (boards bowed and edges worn; leather on joints worn; scratches to front board; rear board worn and scraped; leather on spine cracked; spine ends worn and bumped; scrape to title piece on spine; corners bumped and worn to boards; chip to leather and creasing to top corner of rear board; top edge darkened; scrape to red chalk on bottom edge; pastedowns darkened from binding glue; pink Portuguese bookseller sticker on front pastedown; cracked at first blank flyleaf; first blank flyleaf discolored; 1.5 inch tear to top edge of half-title page; pages wavy and stiff; top corners of pp57-8, 111-2, 149-50 creased); 221pp with main text to p160 and then three appendices.
