Inked name front pastedown. A few small closed tears with some scuffed edges. Only the faintest wear to fore-edge corner tips, else, Pristine, no wear. No markings, binding tight and clean text. 6.25" x 9". Red cloth with black lettering to spine. Illustrated dj in acetate protector. "The author traces the history of advances in British mountain climbing circles during the two centuries that led up to conquering the summit of Everest in 1953. From the first journeys into the Alps, the discovery of Chamonix and the ascents of Mont Blanc, the Jungfrau, Eiger, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn until Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay finally reached the summit of Everest on 29 May 1953 during the expedition led by Brigadier John Hunt.".
