Octavo, 398pp. Printed on Ticonderoga text, extra-illustrated with facsimile reproductions of eight early California newspapers. specially bound with black morocco leather spine and marbled paper covered boards; gilt lettering to spine. A Near Fine copy (very faint mark to spine, page edges a bit toned). Reprinted from the Supplement to the Sacramento Union of December 25, 1858. "Edward C. Kemble, a pioneer of 1846, was a contemporary of the events chronicled in his history, and for this reason, it has been called one of the most important books covering the early period.. The Talisman Press edition added indices on newspapers and newspapermen. Its deluxe edition numbered fifty copies." (Kurutz 372b).
