BINDING/CONDITION: this is from a handsome, uniformly bound set, green marbled boards with half leather; the leather is in bad shape and is missing a large piece at top spine, smaller bit missing at bottom spine; the hinges are a bit creaky due to leather aging; the text block itself is in very good condition; a sound reading copy; graded Poor due to leather.. 8vo (about 9.75 inches tall) . Appendix. Marbled endpapers. Description: This is just one book from a five volume set. Frontis portrait plate with tissue guard. Several plates (maps and other illustrations), all with captioned tissue guards. Chapter contents for this volume: The Spanish Governors; Growth of the Missions; Life at the Missions; The Russians Arrive; A Semblance of Self Government; Figueroa and Colonization; Downfall of the Missions; Oregon and the Trail Makers; Alvarado and Home Rule; Mexico Alarmed; and A House Divided. No printed date; circa 1915.
