About This Item
San Francisco / Oakland / Etc.: Zellerbach Paper Company, 1925. First Edition. Very good. First edition; 6 1/4 x 9; pp. 3-32; brown wraps, printed and ruled in red; illustrated with numerous engravings after A. R. Hunt; small creases to tips of spine and a closed cut to bottom edge of fornt wrap; overall in very good condition. An uncommon publication on the history and principles of paper making, the booklet included chapters on logging spruce, cooking the wood chips, beating the pulp, drying, and so on. It was published by the Zellerbach Paper Company - founded in San Francisco in 1882 by Jewish-German-American Anthony Zellerbach and his sons. Among other things - they would be credited with inventing the molded pulp egg cartons, the window envelope, and the paper towel stack for public facilities, where pulling one towel from the bottom left the rest of the stack intact. The last chapter of the booklet also included an article on the story of the Zellerbach Company, reprinted from the "American Paper Merchant" journal.
