About This Item

Boston: Walker, Fuller and Company, 1866. First Edition. . Hardcover. Good. This appears to be a specially bound dedication copy inscribed by the author to the then Governor of Massachusetts, John Albion Andrew, to whom the book was dedicated. The inscription reads: "To Hon. John A. Andrew. A tribute of admiration, respect, and affection from Warren H. Cudworth. East Boston. Jan 1st, 1866." Decorative brown pebbled boards with blindstamped designs. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Overall condition is good. Edges and corners are worn and rubbed, spine ends frayed, scattered light foxing. Hinges loose. The author served as the Regiment's Chaplain and witnessed the extensive actions it participated in including First Bull Run, Williamsburg, Second Bull Run, Bristow Station, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Spottsylvania.
