Dr. Carr traces the history of Germany from the beginning of its unification and centralisation at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to its division and the end of an epoch of nationalism in 1945. This book is analytical narrative and concentrates on poltical and economic development, though reference is made to the parallel development of German thought and philosophy. Though he has written to fulfil the needs primarily of university students, the author considers that teachers in universities, colleges of education and schools will also find his study useful, as well as anyone interested in seeing modern Germany, in particular its partition, in historical perspective.
