About This Item

London England: Edward Arnold, 1969. Hardback. Mark to inside covers from old sellotape with is holding inside D/J. flaps down. Slight shelf wear to edges of D/J. Dr. Carr traces the history of Germany from the beginning of its unification and centralisation at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 to its division and the end of an epoch of nationalism in 1945. This book is analytical narrative and concentrates on poltical and economic development, though reference is made to the parallel development of German thought and philosophy. Though he has written to fulfil the needs primarily of university students, the author considers that teachers in universities, colleges of education and schools will also find his study useful, as well as anyone interested in seeing modern Germany, in particular its partition, in historical perspective. The fact that the style is lucid and compelling and the narrative as readable as it is informative adds to the book's general appeal. The author has provided a comprehensive index. Subheadings are detailed and arranged chonologically: thus the history of an idea, country of figure may be extracted quickly and simply from the main body of the text. 662 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.). First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Harback.

Reviews

On Nov 3 2011, Fountainhall said:
This is a very detailed book. I found it a dense book to read and had to read it slowly as it was packed with detail. I expected this as it is a university set book.I did refer to other books which had a very simplified take on the subject to get a feel for what I was reading whilst reading it . But I found that an additional benefit. An excellent reference book and one that one would want to keep with one's notes.
