Printed for L. Davis, and C. Raymers, Printers to the Royal Society. London. 1756. Octavo. xxiv, 264pp. Frontispiece folding map, four folding plates. Contemporary full calf, relaid to spine, with appropriate light wear. Spine in six with gilt rules, leather label and gilt lettering. Edges sprinkled red. Some foxing to prelims., map and one plate, lightly toned. A2 (preface) slightly proud, with historic vestiges of tape to inner margin. Slightly strained at 260-1. A handsome copy.
John Armstrong (1706 – 1758) military engineer and author. Observations made between 1738 and 1742 on the island's history, customs, religion, and people. This was the first history of Minorca in any language and translations into French (1769) and Spanish (1781) followed.
The second reissue, containing the Copy of a Letter from an Officer at Minorca, to his Friend in London
