About This Item

Bowie: Heritage Books, Inc.. New. 1995. Paperback. Illus. , index. . 2 vols 785 pages. The beginnings of Newfields are lost in the early history of the (larger and Older) neighboring townships of Dover and Exeter. This book traces Newfields' settlement along the Swampscot River, chronciling the town's history, citizenry, and every turn of its development; from its roads and mills, to its schools and libraries, to its religions and politics. There are many excerpts from public records, legislative transcripts, and private documents. Four chapters are dedicated to biographical sketches of early setlers; subsequent chapters provide similar details about notable citizens and town officials; and Part II of the text is genealogies. .
