Delightful story of Tommy Merton and Harry Sandford and their kindly and adventurous progress. In this edition some obsolete expressions are modernized, frequent recurrence of the Sacred Name in colloquial discourse expunged and a long theological discourse between Mr Merton & Mr Barlow omitted. Frontis illus. shows the 2 boys looking at vignettes of historical heroes. Title page has a Vignette illus. of the boys with a dog. 4 more pages of illustrations, having 2 to a page, making 8 pictures. Perion Green cloth cover with Gilt title and decoration to spine. Blind-stamped foliate decoration on front and back. Spine tanned and some fading around borders on front & back. Gift inscription on ffep dated 1851 and a penciled name on endpaper. No other inscriptions. Hinges sound and text block firm. Spots of light foxing to frontis and very light foxing to title page.
