With 2 lithograph title pages, 88 lithograph plates, sometimes two or more views to a page, and 15 steel engraved portraits, with tissue guards. The lithographs include views of Victorian and more modest homes, ranches, usually with a windmill, stores, hotels, banks, post offices, the Agency of Wells Fargo & Co. missions, mills, orchards, a vineyard, a dairy, a feed & livery stable, and a "fashion stable." The Wharf at Carpenteria, with a paddle wheel steamboat, is one of many outstanding views. Howes S100. Miller 13462. Gift inscription on front endpaper dated Dec 15, 1883 to Laisan McClure from her son, James McClure, the tissue guards of some portraits have pencil tracings of an oval outline, and some penciling over subject's name and some facial features; these do not apply to the actual portraits, just the tissue guards; there are also tears on a few pages: 1" tear pages 39/40, 2 " tear on pages 45/46 and 99/100.
