New York: Harper & Brothers, 1861. First edition, 1861. A handsomely bound set, complete in two volumes. There were two additional volumes published later, in 1868. Includes an account of the English and Dutch war with Spain, as well as the origin and destruction of the Spanish Armada. Frontis engraving in each volume, folding map in volume I. Three quarter tan calf over marbled boards, dual spine labels in dark red and black, slightly raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, marbled edges and endpapers, 532 + 563 pages. Some shelfwear and rubbing, short closed tear near the front joint of volume I, good joints/hinges, sound text blocks with no loosened pages, pages clean with some occasional light foxing, no names or other markings. A clean, sound and attractive set.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
