A first edition of this essay on witchcraft in England which won the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize in European History for 1909. First edition. An essay on the history of witchcraft in England from 1558 to 1718, with specific reference to: the beginnings of witchcraft, witchcraft under Elizabeth, exorcists, Matthew Hopkins, the literature of witchcraft, and the final decline. Written by Wallace Notestein, an American historian and Sterling Professor of English History at Yale University from 1928 to 1947. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Very Good
