Red morocco spine with six spine compartments between raised bands; gilt-tooled title in second comparment; marbled paper over boards. Top page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Bookseller's label on front free endpaper verso for "Librairie Nouvelle . . . E. Rodenfuser succr. de Martin." Small, embossed bookseller's label at foot of title page for "Ritter & Flebbe formerly C.A. Koehler & Co. . . . Boston, Mass." Engraved bookplate of Theodore Woodman Gore on front fixed endpaper with the Gore family motto "In Hoc Signo Vinces"; bookplate is signed: E.H. Blashfield. Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848-1936) was an important American bookplate designer in the late 19th century, before becoming better known as a painter and muralist. The former owner, Theodore Woodman Gore (1847-1921), was a marine adjuster and book collector. A former owner tipped in on the front free endpaper verso a color map of Holland by W. & R. Chambers, London. A list of other works by Havard is on the verso of the half title page. Title page printed in red and black. In Very Good Condition: edges rubbed; 2 tears of 1 cm. at head of spine without loss; light foxing on text pages only; otherwise, pages and plates are clean and bright.
