About This Item

London: The Crime Club, Collins, 1946. First edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A bright first edition copy of Agatha Christie's noted novel 'The Hollow'. Complete with the original dust wrapper. 'The Hollow' features Christie's famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, best known for using his 'little grey cells' to solve cases. The first edition of this work, with an unclipped dustwrapper.  This work is an example of a 'country house mystery' and was the first novel in four years to feature Poirot. This was the longest gap in the Poirot novels. The country house setting for this novel was inspired by Francis L Sullivan's house. Sullivan portrayed Poirot in the plays 'Black Coffee' and 'Peril at End House'. In addition he also played the lead in the 1953 production of 'Witness for the Prosecution', for which he won a Tony. In America this novel was issued under the title 'Murder after Hours'. An uncommon Agatha Christie novel. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Fading to the head and tail of spine as well as to the extremities. Dust wrapper is sound with loss to the head and tail of spine. Small loss to the bottom of rear wrap. Tape repairs internally to the wrapper at the joints and to the head and tail of front wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Evidence of bookplate removal to the front pastedown. Bibliographic notes in pencil to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Spots to the fore-edge. Occasional light spots to pages. Very Good
