The Irish-born British statesman Hugh McCalmont Cairns, 1st Earl of Cairns (1819-1885) was a prominent Conservative statesman in the House of Lords. He served as Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain under Benjamin Disraeli. Cairns was the 17th Chancellor of the University of Dublin, serving in that position from 1867 to 1885.
