Dustjacket is not price clipped, has a few small spots, very small edge chips and short closed edge tears. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. Novel set on a large country estate in the Loire country of pre-war France. The characters are simple people--masters and servants--all seen through the eyes of Jean Menadieu, the old domestic, in whose almost rudimentary soul a strange, compelling loyalty to the past survives the disintegration of the family which he has served for forty years..
