Signed and inscribed by both the author and illustrator For Shirley & Jim. No other writing or marks observed. Firm binding; no loose pages. Book and dust jacket with minor wear. From the dust jacket: "Yearning to see the world, Tom and Janice sell their possessions, get married, and set out on a journey they cannot afford but have to take. In October of 1954 they board a Japanese freighter out of Long Beach, bound for Yokohama, planning to take a year to circle the globe. Their meagre baggage includes Tom's sketching and painting supplies and books for the voyage. Their goal is to live inside other cultures."
